Tuffy

Registered Name: Wind River Gila Tuff Stuff
Kennel Name: "Tuffy"
Sex: Male
Date of Birth: January 25, 1995
Place of Birth: Reserve, New Mexico near the Gila Wilderness
Weight: 46 lbs
Lineage: Son of Rio and Cassie

Special Skills: Tuffy is the program's lead dog. He is our fastest dog and best barker. He is easy to shoot over and radio-track with. Tuffy is also reliable off-leash and can be turned loose on bears.

Education Level: Tuffy completed intermediate obedience and earned his Canine Good Citizen Certificate. This certificate reflects Tuffy's obedience level, the special ability to be affectionate with children, and the temperament to work well with and among the public.

Personality: "Wiley Coyote" best describes Tuffy. He's a trickster and a joker. Tuffy likes to poke people in the behind when he wants to play, and he loves to watch television if bears and dogs are on. Tuffy has wide, wild eyes and he has no problem letting loose and showing us his crazy side.

Special Note: Tuffy survived being lost in the Gila Wilderness not once but twice when he was just a puppy. When he was only 9 weeks old he was lost for one week, and when he was 12 weeks old he was lost for three weeks. We took him back from the owner who lost him and now he is one of our best dogs. It is this toughness that earned him the name "Tuffy."
